Common questions
What is a healthy LTV:CAC ratio?
Above 3:1 is the classic healthy bar — but ratios vary by category and cash position; a low-margin business needs different math than a subscription.
What’s the difference from simple ROAS?
ROAS is channel revenue vs channel spend. LTV:CAC is customer economics across their whole life — the number that decides growth sustainability.
Why is this the metric investors ask for?
It proves you can acquire a customer for less than they’re worth — the core engine of a scalable D2C brand.
CAC vs LTV: what is the difference?
CAC is what you pay to acquire one customer (marketing + sales spend divided by new customers). LTV is what that customer is worth over their whole relationship (AOV x frequency x lifespan). They are one system: healthy ecommerce runs LTV:CAC of 3:1 or better — above 5:1 and you are likely under-investing in channels that work; below 1.5:1 you are burning cash on acquisition.
